Sowing the Seeds of the Next Green Revolution

The British Science Association invites you to attend this free public lecture on Thursday 17 March 2016 at 7pm. Lecture will be held in the D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building, University of Dundee.

How can mankind meet the challenges of achieving food and fuel security in a growing world without destroying the planet? Come and hear emerging ideas on how to use plants to sustainably produce food, fuels and chemicals while mitigating climate change, and learn about new crop breeding technologies that might allow us to achieve that.

Claire Halpin is Professor of Plant Biology and Biotechnology and Head of the Division of Plant Sciences at the University of Dundee. Her research focuses on the biosynthesis of lignin, an essential component of many plant cell walls where it waterproofs and rigidifies the structure and may also suggest ways of allowing plant materials to be used to make biofuels and other industrial products.

The lecture is supported by the Scottish Society for Crop Research.
